Master's of Education in Secondary Licensure and Education
The Master of Arts in Education/Teacher Education Program is designed to help students who already possess a bachelor's degree obtain a master's degree and secondary teacher licensure. The program prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed to help them become successful teachers.
The program is geared to give students with a bachelor's degree the opportunity to become an educator as well as further their own education. P-12 student learning and teacher responsibilities are taught. The program uses Charlotte Danielson's "framework for teaching" to help teachers learn their professional responsibilities. Responsibilities emphasized have been proven to encourage improved student learning.
The program educates teachers on applying the P-12 curriculum standards to their teaching methods to enhance learning in the classroom. Teachers gain classroom based experience through assignments to assist them in discovering the best ways to improve student learning. After completion of the program, teachers will have experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- State and National Standards Learning Theory
- Classroom Management
- Teaching in Diverse Environments
- Curriculum Design and Assessment
- Instructional Strategies
- School Law and Ethics
- Learning Theory
Because each state has different licensing requirements, those enrolling the program need to contact their State Department of Education.
